I Wanna Be Bruce Lee is loosely based on Dave Thornton's reflections on Bruce Lee's life compared with his own. I say 'loosely based' because a large portion of the show comprises of Thornton doing what he does best; finding the nonsense in our everyday thoughts and mannerisms and highlighting it loudly.
His ideas are fresh and his expressive style of comedy adds weight to his punchlines. His international experience shows as he effortlessly shifts between his own planned material and the audience interaction he scatters throughout his show.
Thornton discusses how he gave up other work only to find himself performing to seven people in Edinburgh and has a laugh at the roller-coaster a comedy career can be.
However, as self-deprecating as he may be, he's relatable, relevant, clever and confident. Perhaps not quite as confident and relaxed as some of the older men he's come across in gym change rooms, but I'll leave that for him to tell you about…
