CHARLES BARRINGTON IN MY PICKLED, PICKLED DAYS
2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival Review

Charles Barrington is the type of person you'd like to meet in a bar and smoke a cigar with. His tales of fame and fortune as an actor, writer, director and beekeeper are as funny as they are intriguing. Being a character comedian, it's all an illusion, but he's very good at developing and perpetuating his facade as an international man of mystery.
His charm and debonair style allow him to keep the laughs coming as he discusses his favourite subject - himself.
With the vast pool of stories a falsified life has to offer, there's no shortage of entertaining tales about his exploits.
One of my personal favourites is his endeavour to make a tomato jam, which, he points out is distinctly different to tomato sauce - which of course is all further explained in the Charles Barrington cookbook.
Other highlights include his plans to create a novel based of the Lord of the Rings films and his ability to read the thoughts of mice and stupid people.
Barrington's style of story-telling bumbles from topic but he appears cool and calm despite with his suit jacket and aviator sunglasses.
While his style is undoubtedly humourous, this sometimes leads his stories a bit further astray than is comical and there are times during the show where his routines could do with some editing down.
For those who have seen Charles Barrington do a full length show before, you'll notice the overlap of material, but you'll laugh regardless.
As a master of stage and screen, he'll do what he does best, which is put on a good show.
